Henderson Global Investors is a leading fund manager, providing investment products and services to both individuals and institutions in Europe, Asia Pacific and North America. In the UK, as well as a wide range of investment trusts, OEICs, ISAs and PEPs, Henderson Global Investors offers portfolio management to both individuals and charities.
Institutional investors are also well catered for as Henderson Global Investors manages pension fund assets for both UK and overseas clients as well as a wide range of segregated and pooled investment products for major international corporations.
Investors can choose from the several investment areas and take advantage of Henderson's experience in specialist areas such as technology, socially responsible investment and property.
But Henderson Global Investors didn't always have such a wide remit. Its origins can be traced back to the late 19th century when it was set up to administer the estates of Alexander Henderson, the first Lord Faringdon, and one of the greatest investors of his time.
With these credentials Henderson, as it was then known, expanded into investment management in 1934, adding pension fund management to its range of services in 1974. Further expansion came in 1992 when it acquired Touche Remnant from Sociétè Generale, making Henderson the UK's leading investment trust manager. In March 1998 Henderson was acquired by AMP, Australia's leading financial services company, and later integrated with its asset management division in the UK, AMP Asset Management. To reflect the strength of the new combined company, the Henderson name was changed to Henderson Global Investors in October 2000.
All in all Henderson Global Investors, with its headquarters still based in the UK, now manages assets of £88 billion as at 30 September 2002 (Source: Henderson Global Investors).
